This yearly event gathers scholars, industry practitioners, and graduate students from around the world to share research, exchange ideas, and explore innovations.

This yearly event gathers scholars, industry practitioners, and graduate students from around the world to share research, exchange ideas, and explore innovations in the study and practice of self-directed learning. Proposals are due by Saturday, November 15, 2025.

​

The symposium has a long-standing tradition of serving as a hub for new ideas, fostering collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of knowledge. In 2026, we look forward to building on that tradition by showcasing both research and practical applications that deepen our understanding of how learners create meaning and take ownership of their growth and development.

We especially encourage faculty from diverse fields (e.g., K-12 and higher education, health and wellness, instructional design and technology, management and human resources, etc.) to attend and welcome graduate students to present their work related to self-directed learning, whether it’s empirical studies, theoretical explorations, or innovative projects. We believe you will find a supportive environment to learn together and share your work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or just starting your scholarly journey, we welcome your attendance.​
